If you religiously observe the principles of feng shui, then you know that enhancing your luck is not as simple as just wearing a certain color or placing a metal figurine in a particular room. In feng shui, there are some areas that are considered to be lucky and unlucky, and these change every year. If you want to ensure that you’re sleeping in the right direction or placing your charm in the proper room, you must first be aware of these luck changes. In an interview with feng shui master Hanz Cua, he revealed the sectors of the home that, when enhanced, will bring the best luck. Alternately, he also shared which parts of the must be avoided or cured to ward off misfortune.

Lucky home sectors
The East sector has the prosperity or money star, so family members are advised to work, sit, or stay in this area to benefit from this lucky star. People should also work or stay at the North part of the home, and to pray in this area for unexpected money gain. The Northeast is also considered lucky; Cua advises single people to sleep with their headboards pointed toward this direction, and for students to face this direction when studying to get good grades. The Southeast is foreseen to enhance luck in future prosperity and money gains, as well as the continuous flow of clients, and the Center is also seen as a victory sector.

Unlucky home sectors
The South sector is said to contain the Five Yellow Misfortune stars, which bring illness, wealth loss, relationship problems, accident, and death. Cua says people should avoid sleeping, working, and staying here, and are must not put a radio, TV, or anything that will create noise and activate these misfortune stars. At the Northwest, which is said to be the Illness Sector, people must move their headboard away from here, or to display a wu lou charm or a Himalayan salt lamp to counter the bad luck. Other areas to be avoided or cured are the West sector, which can bring anger, litigation, and court cases; as well as the Southwest, which, when activated, will bring burglary, death, cheating, and betrayal.

Cua also offered certain tips to be done before, during, and after Chinese New Year (January 28) to make sure your 2017 is as lucky as possible.

General tips
1. Before Chinese New Year itself, all bills and debts should be paid off.
2. On January 28, display 12 different kinds of fruit, hide all sharp objects like knives and scissors, and wear red.
3. This year’s lucky color is gold, and should therefore be worn at all times or used in the home when redecorating. The lucky numbers are 1, 6, and 8.
4. Displaying a rooster figurine in the home is advised for most households. If a family member is born in the Year of the Rabbit, a rooster figurine must not be displayed.
