Raring to give your credit card a warm-up? Use it at one of the most recently launched malls in the Philippines.
It’s no secret how much Filipinos love to give themselves some retail therapy, often charging to the nearest shopping mall right after work hours or as soon as these multilevel play-lands open their doors on the weekends. Perhaps the best part of going to the mall is that these places are no longer just for people looking to shop or dine; malls are also for blowing off steam at a bowling alley, catching the latest Marvel flick at one of those VIP cinemas, or even riding a giant Ferris wheel to get a panoramic view of the city.
As numerous and spacious as these malls might be, they do fill up, prompting real estate developers to build more of them to support the unwavering demand. The next time you feel the itch to buy a nice pair of shoes, try a new restaurant, or just get out from under the hot sun, schedule a trip to one of these brand-new retail havens.
SM City San Jose del Monte
The 101,407-square-meter SM City San Jose del Monte is the 57th mall built and operated by Henry Sy–led SM Prime Holdings. Launched in April this year, anchor tenants like The SM Store and SM Supermarket are already in place, along with other SM mainstays like SM Appliance Center, Watsons, Surplus Shop, and Banco De Oro.
SM City San Jose del Monte also features a Cyberzone for digital and electronic merchandise, and recreational offerings include four digital cinemas, Quantum, and World of Fun. Outside, guests can relax in an open-air plaza that has water features, a central pond, and a pedestrian bridge.

As part of their goal to build more commercial spaces in 2016, property giant Megaworld Corporation increased their roster of lifestyle retail elements with the recent opening of Uptown Mall in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig. Venice Grand Canal Mall
When you check your Facebook or Instagram these days, it’s unavoidable to find a friend or acquaintance in a photo with a backdrop showing a now-familiar bridge over a man-made canal. Built by Megaworld in their 50-hectare township McKinley Hill, Venice Piazza is an Italian-inspired retail hub featuring new and upscale restaurants specializing in European and Mediterranean cuisine. Within the area is the Venice Grand Canal Mall, which opened early this year and offers various shopping and dining options. Its most unique feature is also a first in the Philippines: mall visitors can ride an authentic gondola down the canal and see the Venetian landmarks recreated within the development.

Ayala Malls Legazpi
Ayala Land recently entered the Bicol region’s retail scene just this April with the launch of their first mall in Albay Province, Ayala Malls Legazpi, built in partnership with pioneering Bicol retailer LLC Group of Companies. Anchored by LLC’s supermarket and department store elements, the mall offers over 29,000 sqm of gross leasable area and more than 200 stores, many of which are “first in Bicol” restaurants, services, and specialty stores. Also within the property is a four-level atrium designed to maximize natural lighting and ventilation, while providing a view of the Mayon Volcano. According to Ayala, the new mall is in line with their strategy of expanding in cities outside Metro Manila, having already launched malls in locations like Cebu, Iloilo, and Davao.

In December last year, business tycoon John Gokongwei attended the opening ceremony of his 4.7-hectare Robinsons Galleria Cebu complex. Located along General Maxilom Avenue, this Robinsons mall stands six stories high and houses over 200 tenants. Anchors include Robinsons Department Store, Robinsons Appliances, Toys ’R Us, True Value, and Lingkod Pinoy Center. Also within Robinsons Cebu are a landscaped interior garden, cascading water features and an al fresco dining area. One of the most notable features of this Robinsons mall is the presence of cinemas with large-format screens, said to be the first in the Philippines. Out of the six theaters, two are VIP cinemas with lounges where customers can have wines or cocktails.

Boasting a floor area of over 65,000 sqm, this Robinsons mall displays an aesthetic that largely uses natural elements, from the greenery outside to the floor-to-ceiling glass windows that let in natural light.
Robinsons Place Tagum is anchored by retail stores like Robinsons Department Store, South Star Drug, Handyman, and Daiso Japan. Other notable features include an al fresco wine and dine area, and a theater area that will soon include a 3D cinema.
