Celebrations ushering in the New Year may be long over, but Cebuanos have yet to let up on the merry-making due to the joyous and colorful Sinulog Festival. Held in January and considered as one of the most famous celebrations of the Philippines, Sinulog is an annual religious festival held at the Queen City of the South—Cebu City— to honor the Santo Niño and commemorate the Filipinos’ acceptance of Christianity.

The highlight of the festival happens on the third weekend of January marked by a day-long grand parade, as well as various contests and religious processions. Still, this year’s celebration started in December 1 last year and will continue until January 31, so if you’re itching to join the fun, we have some suggestions on where you can spend your vacation to stay close to the festivities.

(To help you map out your itinerary, we’ve also included the schedule of the Sinulog Festival.)

Room for female travelers
If you’re an independent woman planning to witness the festival alone, this female-only rental in Suba San Nicolas in Cebu City offers daily and monthly rates for transients on a budget. A semi-furnished room with a single bed costs Php6,000 (one month), while one with two single beds will cost Php5,000 per person. Rooms are air-conditioned and have hot-and-cold showers. On top of that, free Wi-Fi is available to guests, and located at the lower level of the building is a Gaisano Mart.

Standard comforts for couples
If you’re one of those travelers who only use their accommodation merely as a pit-stop in between more exciting adventures, this basic room for two located in Casuntingan, Mandaue City, should be perfect. Priced at Php700 per night for two guests, the room contains a double bed, air conditioning, cable TV, refrigerator, private bathroom, and tables and chairs. Since this is a room that offers only the basics, you won’t find extra perks like free Wi-Fi, toiletries, drinking water, or airport transfer.

Bare necessities
Another options for those who “just need a place to sleep for the night” is this semi-furnished apartelle found in Pusok, Lapu-Lapu City. A quaint 15-sqm, this air-conditioned unit is close to the airport and an SM Savemore store for your convenience, and it also has a free parking space if you’re planning on renting a vehicle during your stay. A studio-type unit costs Php800 a day, while a two-bedroom unit has a daily rate of Php1,900.

Serviced luxury loft
Located in Barangay Bakilid, Mandaue City, this serviced condotel boasts a spacious 75-sqm living area built with four bedrooms and three bathrooms. Up to eight adults can occupy the unit, which comes equipped with free Wi-Fi, hot-and-cold shower, and several basic appliances including a flat-screen cable TV. Aside from housekeeping and room service, your stay is made comfortable with amenities such as an in-house restaurant, coffee shop, karaoke room, and a family room. Short-term renting of this unit costs Php83,000 a month.

Budget unit for two (or more)
This 22-sqm studio unit in Casuntingan, Mandaue City, should be sufficient for a couple looking for a budget-friendly place during the festival. While two people can stay for Php1,750 per night, the room is actually big enough for a family of up to six members, but additional guests in excess of the first two will be charged. The air-conditioned unit has a balcony, hot-and-cold shower, tables and chairs, as well as a fridge, and is within walking distance of convenience stores, restaurants, banks, and public transport.

Studio unit with a freebie
In Cebu City’s Barangay Guadalupe is a 22-sqm fully furnished condo unit that’s ideal for two people. For a minimum three night’s stay costing Php1,800 a night, the couple can enjoy the use of a double bed, split-type air conditioning, hot-and-cold shower, LCD TV, Wi-Fi, and various kitchen appliances, as well as an airport pickup service that’s absolutely free. If cooking while on vacation is not your cup of tea, the unit is conveniently close to several restaurants and fast food chains.

Built for business or leisure
Thinking of doing a little business during your leisure trip? If you need a place to stay long after the festival, this studio-type apartment located in Mabolo, Cebu City, can be rented for Php17,000 a month or Php16,000/month for three months. For that price, you get a 32-sqm floor area supplied with a bed, hot-and-cold shower, mini kitchen, cable TV, and Wi-Fi. It’s also close to shopping centers like SM City Cebu and Ayala Center Cebu, various coffee shops and restaurants, and even a number of tourist spots.

Barkada trip
For a peso-pinching group of friends, this is the ultimate money-saver: an air-conditioned room for rent furnished with one king-sized bed and one single bed, cable TV, private bathroom, tables and chairs, and cabinets. Located in Mandaue’s Barangay Casuntingan, a night’s stay costs Php1,200 for three people, but the room’s big enough for six, although extra guests are charged Php300 a night.

Short-term rent of this 27-sqm unit costs Php22,000 a month and comes with one queen bed, an LCD TV with cable, hot-and-cold shower, free Wi-Fi, and a few kitchen appliances.

Nearby landmarks include the Gaisano Mall, Virgen dela Regla National Shrine, the ferry boat terminal, and the airport. The home can be rented by up to three adults (no kids or pets) for Php499 a night for a minimum of 10 nights.

Shopping-friendly location
Just can’t shake the shopper in you even while on vacation? This apartment complex located in Labangon, Cebu City, should satisfy your need for retail therapy as it is within walking distance of Metro Shopping Center and two other malls, and also close to the newly opened SM Seaside City Cebu. The available 55-sqm unit is fully furnished and also offers free Wi-Fi, cable TV, 24-hour security, hot-and-cold shower, and weekly linen changes, among other things. It can be rented for either short- or long-term stays for Php25,000 a month.

For the stay-in type
Would you prefer to cook your own meals even on a holiday? A fully equipped kitchen will come in handy, which is exactly what this 36-sqm two-bedroom unit in Guadalupe, Cebu City, has. Aside from the standard microwave and fridge, it also comes with a hot- and cold-water dispenser, induction stove, rice cooker, toaster, cookware, and utensils. Hotel-like perks include air conditioning in the bedroom and living room/kitchen, water heater, toiletries, LED TV, and free Wi-Fi. It’s also near One Pavilion Mall, the Guadalupe Church, Crown Regency Residences Cebu, and other landmarks. This unit is good for four guests and costs Php2,800 per night or Php30,000 a month for short-stay renting.
