Now 28.8 hectares after acquiring a beachfront property and an area fronting Mactan Shrine.
Megaworld recently announced a major change to The Mactan Newtown, their premier township development project in Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu: they’re set to redevelop two properties, one fronting the Mactan Shrine and the other the 11.5-hectare Portofino Beach Resort. This will increase their land area from 16.8 hectares to 28.8.
According to Megaworld, the property along Punta Engaño Road in front of Mactan Shrine will be one of the main access points into Mactan Newtown. This step, the developer says, further establishes Newtown’s position as “a major tourism hub in Mactan Island,” and is part of their commitment to the rehabilitation of the famous historic landmarks of the Visayan province.
As for Portofino Beach Resort, Megaworld will be developing the area in cooperation with present landowner Landmark Incorporated.
“The expansion,” Megaworld Cebu Properties, Inc. president Noli D. Hernandez explained, “will allow us to provide more enhanced features aligned towards resort-style living, perfect for active retirees and investors.”
To create a well-rounded township, developments are also being planned to accommodate BPO (business process outsourcing) employees, office and commercial tenants and students. Some of the projects already in the works are 8 Newtown Boulevard, the first residential condominium cluster; Two World Center, the township’s second office tower; and a school to be built in partnership with the La Sallian Schools Supervision Office (LASSO).
