SMDC agent profiles: Jose Niño D. Umali

This professor-turned-agent reveals his thoughts on what makes SMDC a strong real estate brand.


Jose Niño D. Umali was a professor for two years prior to joining SMDC as an agent. He reveals knowing very little about SMDC until a friend referred him, and only building his knowledge of the brand and its projects during the screening and once he came on board. His team currently handles Field Residences in Sucat.

Now into his fourth month as an agent, Niño sees the SMDC’s methods of running things as one of the factors that contribute to its popularity as a brand. “Maganda kasi yung palakad ng SMDC. Magandang magbigay ng incentives sa agents,” he says.

He also believes it’s the reason why agents like him choose to sell the brand. “Kaya pansinin mo yung sa SMDC, kung ilan kaming mga agents. More than 1,000 agents kami. Hindi kami halos magkakakilalang mga agents kasi ganoon kami karami. Ganoon kaganda sa SMDC.”

In closing deals, Niño credits his ability to present properly and provide sufficient information. “Presentation pa lang, kailangan ibigay mo na yung best mo. Kasi formality na lang yung sa closing eh. Kung sa presentation pa lang, naibigay mo na yung mga details na kailangan niyang malaman, dun pa lang, makakapag-decide na agad sila.”

It doesn’t hurt that the brand practices honesty in payments, he says, adding: “Isa din yung payment scheme namin kasi we are very transparent to our clients. Kami, once na mag-c-close kami ng deal, 'ma’am, sir, eto po yung aming other charges'. Transparent kami para hindi sila nagugulat, na-su-surprise. Tingin ko yun yung isa sa mga advantage namin.”

When it comes to his personal life, Niño reveals he is motivated by his desire to provide for his family, and explains how important it is for him to be in the right mindset when coming to work everyday: “Kung ito ang gusto kong ma-reach by the end of this year, kailangan ma-reach ko yun. And I think in real estate, I can reach that.”

When asked if he sees himself working for SMDC for a while, he says, “For five to ten years, kasi SMDC is one-of-a-kind.”
