What makes someone who’s been in different industries stick with one company? Read about K-Mar’s career with SMDC.
K-Mar Peñaflorida can’t stay still. “Gala ako eh,” he says at one point, mentioning that he’s held jobs in various industries from restaurants to the government, and both here and abroad. But he claims to never being really happy until he came home and started working for SMDC.
The start of K-Mar’s career as a real estate agent was intermittent, moving from one developer to another and staying for only a month at a time. He came to SMDC in April 2013 when his cousin, an engineer who worked on both Sea and Shell Residences, suggested that he try it out. He’s currently selling Breeze Residences, located in Roxas Boulevard.
K-Mar believes the SMDC developments' locations are the main selling point of the brand. He cites the SM Mall of Asia area as an example, saying it’s easy for buyers to decide to buy a property when they realize how accessible everything is from a certain development.
“We’re able to close one deal in one sitting ‘pag yan ang mina-market namin,” he says proudly.
When it comes to working under SMDC, he has this to say about the company: “Ang kinaganda lang kay SMDC, hindi ka niyang ginagawang tamad,” he explained. “Dito, ‘pag hindi ka consistent, if you don’t meet your quota, say goodbye. Pero ‘pag marami kang benta, you can stay here. Easy and simple.”
K-Mar remains unfazed when the topic of competition crops up. “Hindi kami nagpapatalo kasi we’re the Good Guys,” he says, referring to the company’s catchphrase. “Mayabang na kami kung mayabang, pero sinasabi namin, ‘ma’am kami may mall, yung project namin may budget na, mayaman yung developer’. So ang isip agad ng kliyente, itatayo talaga yung project. And 'pag pinakita namin yung inventory online, makikita nila, 75% sold out. Kaya makikita agad ng kliyente, pwede. May trust ka na.”
When asked what inspires him to work, he simply says, “My daughter, siyempre. She’s six months old.”
Aside from providing for his family, he also has goals for himself, sharing, “I want to challenge myself. Five years from now, iba yung gusto kong mangyari sa buhay ko.”
And does he see himself staying put this time? “Yes, I will. Yun talaga ang plan ko. I want to stay here kasi marami pang i-lo-launch na projects si SMDC eh.”
“Here, I’m with my family, hawak ko ang oras ko, nakakabenta pa ako,” he adds.
