Six ideal gifts for the newlywed couple by Nadine PacisPublished: June 9, 2015Updated: June 11, 2015

Not sure what to buy for a wedding gift? We've got you covered.

June is the month of weddings and there’s a fair chance that you’ve been invited to one or more of these celebrations. Usually, couples have bridal registry listings in department stores or interior design boutiques so you don’t have to do a lot of thinking when buying gifts. But if the couple did not opt for a bridal registry, or if you just want to go the extra mile and surprise them, we’ve got you covered. Here is a list of gifts for the newly-wed couple:

Kitchen set

Most newly weds are beginning their lives together in a new home, so a set of good quality pots, pans, and kitchenware is a good gift choice. It’s a practical gift that goes a long way for the couple as a kitchen set is mostly a part of their priority list when they move in together. Add a recipe book in the set for good measure.

Cooking appliances

These are a little bit on the expensive side, but if you have a lot of money to spare then couples will definitely appreciate it if you buy them a cooking appliance or two. Microwaves, rice cookers, coffee machines, and steam cookers are some of the appliance must-haves when they move into the new home.

Tablewares

Dinner wares are practical but a little tricky to buy. They’re tricky because couples usually want to match their tablewares to the theme of their dining room. If you have no idea about their interior design choices, then you can always go for plates and glasses with minimal themes. Play it safe and don’t pick flashy wares if you don’t want to your gift to just end up sitting in their china cupboard untouched.

Champagne or Wine and glasses

A newly-wed couple will do a lot of celebrating days after their wedding. Whether it’s because they’ve successfully assembled a complicated piece of furniture, or one of them just got promoted, couples are going to want to have a bottle of fine champagne or wine ready for their enjoyment. It’s a thoughtful, personal gift that also speaks of your great taste.

An instax camera

Sure, there are phone cameras and selfie sticks if couples want to have fun photos together, but nothing beats a photo that you can actually hold and keep in an album or display on the walls. An artsy couple will appreciate your creative gift much more. They’ll appreciate an instax camera with films ready to use so they can quickly snap memorable photos of their honeymoon trip.

Gift certificates

This may seem a thoughtless gift, but there are a lot of couples who prefer to do the shopping all by themselves. Couples will appreciate gift certificates from their preferred stores and boutiques just as much as actual wrapped presents. Gift certificates give them the freedom to buy things they actually want, instead of wasting someone else’s money and time. If you seem unsure about it, there’s no harm in asking about their preferences.
