New townships and mixed-use developments outside Metro Manila to watch out for

Metro Manila is not the only area experiencing growth in terms of township development

Real estate experts may have dubbed 2015 as “year of townships,” but developers have not yet lost their momentum this year and the last in terms of delivering more of these “cities within cities.” And they are not just staying within the bounds of Metro Manila, but have also tapped the unlimited potential of the country’s growing provincial cities. Here are only some of the townships beyond Metro Manila that future residents can look forward to.


Amanterra in Morong, Bataan

In March of this year, it was announced that a 143-hectare portion of Morong would soon be home to a Php42 billion real estate venture to be named Amanterra after the property development company owned by Engr. Joel Alegre, who is also the president and CEO of United Power Systems Phils. Inc. According to Alegre, the development will be a “modern, world-class township” and a “comprehensive mixed-use development that already has all the components of a self-contained community.” Amanterra will comprise a multi-building residential condo and a high-end residential enclave, a business district with a central park, and a lifestyle center with a commercial strip.


Eastland Heights in Antipolo, Rizal

Megaworld Corporation’s tourism estate arm Global-Estate Resorts Inc. (GERI) stated December last year that it will dedicate a capital of Php5 billion for the development of an integrated lifestyle community called Eastland Heights in Antipolo. According to GERI president Monica Salomon, this move will allow Megaworld to expand to Antipolo and to “capitalize on the scenic views and fresh air” of the city. The 640-hectare project will be developed over the course of five to seven years, and will contain residential, commercial and retail, and institutional components, as well as its own 36-hole golf course and country club.

In May, Ayala Land Inc. (ALI) revealed plans for a 200-hectare real estate development to rise in Kawit, Cavite. Dubbed Evo City, the project aims to be the next central business district in the south, with the first part of development being a gated village under the Alveo Land brand to be labeled The Residences at Evo City. The mixed-use estate will also feature an Ayala Mall, hotel, and offices, as well as civic spaces for parks and plazas, a school, church, and hospital. According to Ayala Land, Evo City will also offer smart and efficient designs in services such as traffic management, public transport, and emergency and security systems.


Maple Grove in General Trias, Cavite

May 2016 also saw Megaworld unveiling plans to develop Maple Grove, a 140-hectare property that will rise in General Trias. The company says the “smart and green community” will be composed of residential, retail, office, and institutional components, and will be built through a masterplan that integrates sustainability and environmental responsibility. Maple Grove, Megaworld’s 21st township, will be developed over the next 10 years with a capital of Php10 billion. This development is Megaworld’s fourth in the area, the other three being GERI’s Twin Lakes near Tagaytay and Southwoods City in the boundary of Cavite and Laguna; and Suntrust Ecotown in Tanza by another Megaworld subsidiary, Suntrust Properties Inc.

Azuela Cove in Lanang, Davao City

Late last year, ALI announced its partnership with the Alcantara Group (AG) for the development of Azuela Cove, a 25-hectare master-planned mixed-use community in Lanang. Envisioned as Davao’s prime waterside community, Azuela Cove will consist of residential low- to mid-rise towers, commercial lots, offices, an events venue, and a waterside cove with retail components. Recently, ALI announced that healthcare group St. Luke’s Medical Center will open a world-class hospital within Azuela Cove.
