Makati City: More Than Just Bright Lights

Makati is known for a lot of things: its skyline, its fast-paced lifestyle, Ayala Avenue, and for being the Philippines’s most important business and financial center. The city has also been the Philippines’ richest city for many years now. As a testament to this, more than 62,000 enterprises and 2,000 corporations among its many establishments are currently registered to Makati. These business enterprises allow it to continuously generate the highest income per capita annually, which remains unbeaten by other highly urbanized cities up to now.

In addition to this, Makati currently has the highest concentration of BPO offices in the whole Philippines at 1,200 plus and counting, and a cluster of IT parks that prove Makati is not only a wealthy city but is also widely open to the information technology sector.

But then again, Makati is of course, is not all work and no play. For those who have a penchant for shopping, shopping centers are also scattered throughout the city like Greenbelt, Glorietta, Power Plant Mall, and Century Mall—among 44 other malls in the area. Unique dining experiences, from hole-in-the-wall restaurants to fine-dining restaurants abound Makati as well. Drive by specialty restos in Poblacion or grab a healthy snack at the Legaspi Sunday Market for a satisfying craving fix—or party until dawn in clubs along Makati Avenue.

All in all, Makati is certainly one of the few cities in the Philippines that can offer you a perfect balance of both business and pleasure.


Buying a House in Makati

One can say that a property in Makati City is priced a bit on the steep side. But with all the opportunities and convenience living in the financial center of the Philippines, any resident can confidently say that living in Makati is worth every cent.

Makati’s well-known exclusive subdivisions or gated communities some of the most expensive houses in the Philippines; expensive, though, they are, they come in a wide range of sizes and prices.

On the more “affordable” side lie Magallanes, Bel-Air, and Sa Lorenzo Villages, where houses for sale could have asking prices as “low” as PHP 35 million. This particular property, located in Magallanes Village, sits on a lot measuring 390 sqm and has five bedrooms. Another “affordable” Makati house can be found in Bel-Air Village, which has six bedrooms and four bathrooms, and is currently listed for PHP 75 million.

At the other end the price scale at the very exclusive Dasmarinas Village, Urdaneta Village, and Forbes Park, home to some of the Philippines priciest pieces of real estate. In Forbes Park alone, data from Lamudi shows that than median house price is PHP 380 million.

This does not mean, however, that affordable houses cannot be found in Makati. The city’s barangays outside the central business district is teeming with houses for sale currently on offer for no more than PHP 20 million. These areas include San Antonio, Poblacion, Pio Del Pilar, Bangkal, and Palanan. The great news about these areas is that they are mere minutes away from Ayala Avenue, and that improving transport infrastructure is making these places even more accessible to future residents.
