Pasig: A former provincial capital and now an important financial center


Pasig, a city situated at the central-eastern section of Metro Manila is the former capital of Rizal Province. As a municipality, it was incorporated into the newly created Metropolitan Manila in the 1970s by then president Ferdinand Marcos, and then became a full-fledged city in 1994, signed by then president Fidel Ramos. Now, Pasig is mostly known as home to half of Ortigas Center, one of the National Capital Region’s most important business districts.


As a highly urbanized financial center, Pasig unsurprisingly is home to many condo developments built by some of the country’s largest developers. Quite intuitively, most of these condos are found in Ortigas Center, a place that has a high concentration of high-rise structures. Some of the most notable condos in this part of Pasig include Eton Emerald Lofts, AIC Gold Tower, Sonata Private Residences, Renaissance Tower Condominium, Sapphire Bloc, and Alexandra Condominium, among many others. A one-bedroom, 34-sqm condo for rent in Eton Emerald Lofts, for example, has a rental rate of Php28,000 per month.


Another good location to look for Pasig condos for rent is C5 Road, where The Grove by Rockwell can be found. This six-tower mixed-use development boasts upscale condo high-rises with units ranging in size from 55-sqm one-bedroom apartments to 88-sqm three-bedroom flats. A three-bedroom condo for rent in The Grove by Rockwell normally has a monthly rental rate of Php70,000. Then over at Meralco Avenue in Pasig’s old Kapitolyo section is Ortigas & Co.’s Capitol Commons. Although this mixed-use development is still in the construction stage (its Estancia Mall is already open, though), over the next few years it will offer high-end and luxury condos for rent, some of which may be as big as 300 sqm.

However, Pasig is more than just Ortigas Center and Capitol Commons. The city, especially its sections close to the Pasig Simbahan area, feature many condo developments, most of which are very affordable. One example is Hampton Gardens Condominiums located in Raymundo Avenue, Barangay Maybunga. A one-bedroom, 20-sqm condo unit here is currently listed for Php14,000 per month. Other condo developments in this general vicinity include Riverfront Residences, Levina Place, East Raya Residences, Sorrento Oasis, Acacia Escalades, Lumiere Residences, and Mirea Residences. These condo developments are close to Pasig’s major thoroughfares, including C5 Road, Ortigas Avenue, and Shaw Boulevard, which provide quick access to Ortigas Center, Quezon City, Bonifacio Global City, and the Makati CBD.
